Recently I sold a home for some wonderful clients who moved out of state to fulfill their dream of retiring to a golf course community where they could be closer to their friends. I met the buyer during the transaction and she seemed very nice.
But you know what is not nice? Her obnoxious dog. Four times in the last couple weeks since she moved in, he has dug under the fence and popped up on our deck, scaring the cats out of their wits and getting mud on the patio.
Yes, the dog lives behind me now, along with its friend, another dog that is not a digger. It is a barker. So even when I don't actually see a dog, I can often hear a dog instead.
I like dogs, but just as with children, I think they should be trained to not annoy people.
I miss my old neighbors even more now, with their sweet, well-trained dog. I never even knew they had a dog until I went to their house to talk to them about selling it. Sigh.
This story sounds familiar to me I miss my old neighbor and the dog he was always there for us; hopefully, the new neighbor will be.
Thankful I live on 2 acres, our nextdoor neighbors dog barks, but he's far enoub=gh away that it does not bug me. Maybe time for you to move? As they say you cannot pick your neighbors. :(
Robin - Ugh! I hate barking dogs! I waited in my neighbors driveway one morning at 2am when he and his wife came back from an all day event to tell them their dog had barked continuously all day. Fixed the problem. Never heard the dog bark again.

Maybe you could slip a "Doggie Daycare" flyer on their mailbox. I hate to say it but when looking at proeprty if there are barking dogs next door I am instantly turned off. Good luck and order some ear plugs
A nice hot wire about 6" from the ground on your side will correct the digging into your yard quite quickly. Yes the dog gets a small shock, no it is not hurt, just...well....shocked.
The barking dog, that is a city matter, nothing you can do about it.
So funny! We just moved to a new neighborhood and we could tell that the existing neighbors were scoping us (and, I'm sure, all the potential buyers) out.
We spoke to the across the street neighbor on one of our visits and, now that I have gotten to know her, I can guarantee that she would have done whatever it took to turn us off the house if she had not liked us....
We replaced the "bad" neighbors, and they weren't going to deal with another one!
Maybe the will outgrow the novelty of it all and learn not to do that.
I am a dog lover but that would certainly be annoying. My old dog barely usually just barks once to go out and once to come back in most of the time but we went out in the middle of the night recently and he went crazy, I did not see anything but there must have been an animal in the yard before we came out. The hair raised on his back and my dog sounded like a Tazmanian Devil. I hope he did not wake anyone.
So you have a digger and likes to visit neighbors. Maybe a few squirts with the water hose will send him packing and let him know he's not welcome. Once a digger always a digger is what I've heard. Sorry for your kitties.
